Insulation planned around your new home
A new home offers the opportunity to get insulation and air sealing right before the framing is covered. Attis Insulation works with homeowners and builders in northeastern Pennsylvania to choose materials and installation details that fit the home, construction schedule and budget.
We look beyond individual cavities. The thermal envelope separates heated and cooled rooms from outdoors and unconditioned spaces. Its insulation should align with a continuous air-control layer through walls, ceilings, floors and the transitions between them.
Choose materials for the assembly
Exterior walls and open framing
Fiberglass batts can suit accessible framing when fitted carefully around wiring, pipes and obstructions, with separate air sealing. Closed-cell spray foam may be appropriate where cavity depth is limited or the proposed assembly benefits from its thermal resistance and air-control properties. Framing still conducts heat, so cavity R-value alone does not describe whole-wall performance.
Vented attics and unvented roof assemblies
In a typical vented attic, insulation and air sealing belong at the ceiling or attic-floor plane, while soffit-to-roof ventilation paths remain open. An unvented roof assembly places the enclosure boundary at the roofline and requires a coordinated insulation, air and moisture-control design. We establish which assembly is intended before selecting materials; blocking vents does not by itself create a suitable unvented roof. See attic insulation options.
Floors, rim joists and crawl spaces
The boundary below the home also needs a clear plan. Underfloor spray foam can suit a floor over an unconditioned space. Crawl-space encapsulation instead addresses the crawl-space enclosure, ground vapor control, perimeter insulation and humidity management. These are distinct scopes, with different effects on pipes, ducts and equipment.
Coordinate before drywall
- Review the accessible plans and intended thermal boundary, framing depths and roof or crawl-space design.
- Define the insulation product, application areas, target R-values or thicknesses and included air sealing in a written scope.
- Coordinate access after relevant rough-in work and before finishes conceal the cavities.
- Install in suitable conditions and review coverage, fit and accessible transitions before they are covered.
Required insulation levels, vapor-control layers, foam protection and inspections depend on the approved project and applicable requirements. Roof or wall leaks and wet substrates need correction before insulation. Ventilation and combustion-air provisions should be coordinated with the responsible trades as the enclosure becomes tighter.
