Insulation removal is often the first step in restoring an attic or crawl space to a reliable thermal and air-control boundary. Attis Insulation removes accessible old, fallen, damaged or contaminated insulation as part of a defined restoration scope, then can air-seal and re-insulate the assembly.
When insulation removal makes sense
- Attic fiberglass that has settled, been disturbed or conceals air leakage pathways

- Wet or deteriorated insulation after the moisture source has been corrected
- Fallen or deteriorated fiberglass beneath crawl-space floor joists
- Renovations requiring access to framing, penetrations or a redesigned insulation boundary
Why removing insulation can improve the finished project
Adding material over a compromised assembly may leave major air leaks hidden. Where removal is warranted, exposing attic-floor penetrations, top plates, rim joists or floor framing allows us to identify gaps, inspect visible conditions and install insulation in a more continuous manner. The goal is not simply to replace the material; it is to restore the performance of the relevant building enclosure.
Attic removal and re-insulation
Typical projects can include removing existing fiberglass, vacuuming accessible debris, optional treatment where appropriate, attic-floor air sealing, preserving the intended ventilation path and installing new loose-fill fiberglass to the agreed depth and R-value. Crawl-space removal before floor insulation or encapsulation
Sagging fiberglass can obstruct work, hold debris or leave parts of the floor assembly poorly insulated. Removal may be followed by closed-cell spray foam beneath the floor, or by a different solution that places the thermal boundary at the crawl-space foundation walls as part of encapsulation.
What is included in an Attis removal estimate?
We specify the areas to be removed, accessible debris handling, containment or protection measures, disposal arrangements and any follow-on work. Extensive animal waste, suspected asbestos or other regulated materials may require specialist evaluation or remediation before ordinary insulation work can proceed. We do not promise a fixed savings percentage simply from removing material.
