Improve comfort in the home you already own
Cold rooms, drafty floors and uneven temperatures can signal gaps in the thermal envelope, the boundary between conditioned living space and outdoors or unconditioned areas. Attis Insulation evaluates existing homes in northeastern Pennsylvania and recommends insulation improvements based on accessible conditions, available space and your renovation plans.
A retrofit may address one problem area or several connected assemblies. Adding insulation can reduce heat flow, but it will not automatically stop air leaks, repair water damage or correct heating-system problems. We identify the work that fits your home and describe it in a written scope.
Retrofit options for different parts of the home
Attic insulation and air sealing
Accessible leaks at the attic-floor plane are often easier to address before adding insulation. In a vented attic, we preserve the intended roof ventilation paths and evaluate existing material and moisture conditions. An unvented roofline is a different assembly that needs its own condensation-control and insulation details. Explore attic insulation and air sealing.
Enclosed walls and opened renovations
Dense-pack fiberglass may suit enclosed wall cavities when access and conditions allow. If a renovation exposes the framing, carefully fitted fiberglass batts or closed-cell spray foam may be appropriate. Our wall insulation service explains these choices without treating every existing wall alike.
Cold floors and crawl spaces
Missing or fallen insulation can leave the thermal boundary below the living space incomplete. Underfloor spray foam keeps that boundary at the floor when the space beneath remains unconditioned. Crawl-space encapsulation is a separate approach that addresses ground moisture, the perimeter enclosure and humidity. We assess the conditions and any pipes or equipment before recommending either scope.
Existing insulation that needs removal
Some insulation can remain; material that is wet, damaged, contaminated or obstructing access may require removal. Insulation removal is included only when specified. Suspected hazardous materials, active pests, leaks and structural problems need appropriate evaluation before work proceeds.
A practical sequence for retrofit work
- Discuss the rooms or conditions causing concern and inspect accessible assemblies.
- Identify moisture issues, access limitations and the intended air and thermal boundaries.
- Agree on preparation, removal if needed, air sealing, insulation and repair responsibilities.
- Install the specified work and review coverage and accessible transitions.
Air sealing should be coordinated with ventilation and combustion safety. A tighter enclosure may need a ventilation assessment; random leaks are not a dependable fresh-air system. Comfort and energy results depend on the starting conditions, extent of work, weather and home operation.
